By We would like to share with you the final video in the online learning, experience and discussion series of NWD’s two-year project Towards a Transcultural Dialogue, which concludes in 2025.
We explored the question of how a more transcultural arts and culture scene can be created with curator-writer Işın Önol and cultural anthropologist-writer Dr. Banu Karaca.
We problematised the extent to which transculturality is accommodated in curatorship, private and public arts and culture institutions, and funding bodies. We held a discussion around questions such as: Is there a return to a more conservative and national logic on a global and local scale, or is diversity supported, as is often claimed? But who sets the boundaries of this diversity? How much curatorial and artistic autonomy is possible?
Finally, we discussed what could be done to realise the trans-cultural arts and culture environment we envision, and how we could implement practices of objection, solidarity, and collective action.
